On March 18, 2017 , VAAPA organized a first-ever Mathcounts competition for middle (6th, 7th and 8th) students in Southern California at Warner Middle School, Westminster.
Over 100 middle school students from Warner, Johnson, Blessed Sacrament, Orange County School of Art OCSA, Santa Barbara, just to name a few, participated in the event. The event was a total success. Students were very well prepared for the fierce competition in which cash prizes, trophies and medals were awarded to the top three teams.
The VAAPA mathcounts program is a "bee" style contest (Đố Vui Tóan) through a series of fun and math calculation questions. The event fulfills our mission and our objective in promoting STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics) to the younger generation and motivating them toward careers in science/ technology.
With a lot of interest and eager participation from middle schoolers, we hope to make the Mathcounts competition an annual event for VAAPA in many years to come. It gave us an opportunity to serve our community as well as achieved our stated goal.
The top prize went to the OCSA team and the second and third prizes to the Warner teams. Certificates of participation were also given to all participants. Congratulations to All.
